Opinion: iPhone 7 should be imaginative, not status quo, or risk spectacular fail

You have to admire Walt Mossberg for taking his position as grand exalted leader amongst technology journalists directly to the US telecoms. He is single handedly trying to break the hold on consumers that the Sprint/Tmobile/AT&T/Verizon Cartel has on the US Mobile industry. To his credit, he has gotten Verizon to promise that in Q3 2008, that it will accept any device on its platform – as long as it meets a very simple set of requirements (like no VoIP?). If he were running for Office, we’d vote for him.
EDIT: IT looks likt the real cost of the iPhone is around $950
There are 4 new "formulas": 49 € for 2 hours talk time, 59€ for 3 hours, 79€ for 5 hours, 119 € for 8 hours (FYI – you don’t get charged on incoming calls in France)
(France24 is providing the details)
Interesting. Some observations:
749€ – not bad for an unlocked iPhone. Compared to what now appear to be Deutchbag T-Mobile’s €999 fee, it is a bargain. Expect to see Germans coming over the Maginot line like ’40 to buy unlocked iPhones in France.
Walt Mossberg talks about how the US cable companies and DSL providers are screwing the US over with tricks and slow speeds…. (Yah, you know you can get 100Mb Fiber in France for €50/month?)
…AppleTV is nice but currently has limited appeal because of bandwidth…..
Oh and a little bombshell….Says iPhone will be 3G in 60 days (at about 6:53 in)! As someone who regularly gets to test Apple products way ahead of the public, he would know! Update: He now says that is just n ducated guess. Uh huh.
Go Walt!
Not surprisingly, the big four non-Apple civilians who had been given iPhones to play with (and had signed their life away in NDAs) finally showed their cards ahead of the rest of the media yesterday. Also, not a surprise to anyone, they loved it almost unconditionally. How does the public let Apple get away with this round robin “give us good reviews and you get our newest product early, bad reviews and we give our new products to your competitors” game? “Freedom of the press and Democracy Inaction” as the Daily Show would say…so here they are, your unbiased reviews:
