LG gave an update last month before CES about the Apple TV app arriving this year on its recent TVs. While we learned that the 2020 models would include Apple’s TV app when they launch, LG didn’t share a date for when the 2018 and 2019 models will gain support except for “this year.” This evening LG has announced that the Apple TV app is rolling out now to compatible 2019 models in over 80 countries.
Ahead of CES officially kicking off next week, LG has announced its 2020 lineup of 8K TVs. In total, LG has announced eight new options ranging from 65-inches to 88-inches, all with support for AirPlay 2 and HomeKit integration.
All three 2020 iPhones are expected to have OLED screens, but that doesn’t mean they will all be equally good. The two flagship models are reportedly getting more advanced display tech which will result in thinner screens.

After initially slating a July 25 date to enable HomeKit and AirPlay 2 support for some of its 2019 TVs, LG has officially started rolling out software updates for its OLED and NanoCell 4K UHD TVs with ThinQ AI. While the company’s UK press team said last week that 2018 and earlier LG TVs would also be gaining the Apple integration, LG has since said that it has no plans to offer the updates beyond the 2019 models.

LG cannot guarantee that TV models prior to 2019 will be able to deliver a seamless user experience. Therefore, while this may be a possibility in the future, at the moment, LG has no plans to update its pre-2019 TVs with Airplay2 or Homekit.
Earlier this week, LG announced that it would start rolling out HomeKit and AirPlay 2 to eligible TVs this month. Now, new details have emerged that suggest those updates won’t be solely limited to 2019 TVs after all.
