[Update: Tested! Crayon works on iPad Pro in iOS 12.2 beta 6. Jason Snell first shared this detail in a Macworld piece earlier this week too.]
According to Nilay Patel at The Verge, Logitech Crayon support is coming soon to the iPad Pro. Nilay says Apple tells him support will be added through software in the next update to iOS 12, presumably iOS 12.2 which is likely due out on Monday.
Apple announced two new iPads this morning, finally updating the iPad mini and bridging the gap between its entry-level and high-end models with a new iPad Air. For the first time, both new product lines gain Apple Pencil support, while also being the first new models since the sixth-generation 2018 iPad to feature Logitech Crayon support.
Apple today announced updates to its iPad line. There’s a new iPad mini and a new iPad Air, with a 10.5-inch screen. The iPad Air features a thinner design with a 10.5-inch display and the Apple A12 Bionic chip.
The iPad mini keeps the same 7.9-inch screen, but gets the same A12 spec bump. Both the Air and the Mini are compatible with the first-generation Apple Pencil. The iPad mini starts at $399 for the 64 GB model, and the Air starts at $499. You can order them today from Apple.com.
While the second-generation Apple Pencil magnetically attaches and charges on the side of your iPad or iPad Pro, it’s still worth knowing how to check the battery status of your Apple Pencil. Especially if you’re using your Apple Pencil for long periods of time. Follow along to learn how to check Apple Pencil battery level.
There are two Apple products I was pretty sure weren’t for me. The first was the Apple Watch.
To be fair to myself, I didn’t state outright that I would never buy one, only that I was a skeptic.
Although I can’t see an actual problem I need the watch to solve, that’s not the same as considering it a useless device. I can see potential applications for it, I’m just not sure they amount to a sufficient reason to own one.
I now wear one everyday. But there seemed no doubt at all that I had no possible reason to want an Apple Pencil …
Pixelmator for iOS is seeing an update today that adds support for the new iPad Pro display sizes as well as the double-tap gesture for the Apple Pencil. The update also brings a number of bug fixes and stability improvements.

The Iconfactory has updated its excellent iPad Pro drawing app Linea Sketch with support for the new models, gesture control on the new Apple Pencil, and new fill and blending tools that enhance the app for all users. Paper, the popular sketching app for iPhone and iPad, has today been updated with optimization for the latest iPad Pro and Apple Pencil. Starting today, users of the second-generation Apple Pencil can take full advantage for the device’s new double-tap functionality.
The 2018 iPad Pro is the most compelling new iPad to be released since the original. Whereas all previous iPad models more or less have had notable but incremental refinements and improvements, this new 2018 iPad is the tablet that Apple has longed to make.
Thanks to its flat edges, the 2018 iPad Pro looks vaguely similar to the original version, but that’s where the similarities abruptly end. This machine is an absolute monster in so many areas, from its “all-screen” front panel, to its ludicrously-fast CPU, to the sheer amount of flash storage space and memory.
But performance is only part of the story. The 2018 iPad Pro features many additional refinements and enhancements, and several direct answers to complaints levied against previous hardware releases.
Unfortunately, iOS is still a major thorn in the side of would-be iPad power users. iOS has improved over the last few years, but it still chokes the hardware of much-needed oxygen. The good news is that iOS 13 is less than a year away, and it’s rumored to bring changes and enhancements to the iPad that will remove some of the friction currently hindering the experience.

While I upgrade my iPhone every year, my iPad upgrade history trends toward every other generation: iPad 2, fourth-gen, Air, and 9.7-inch Pro. Skipping a generation (with the exception of the fourth-gen to original Air) has served me well as each upgrade is less incremental and more dramatic.
(I later acquired the original iPad — seen above stacked on the new iPad Pro — to collect; the new 11-inch iPad Pro feels like the modern version of that design with similar flat sides and the bulbous back squashed.)
This time around I’m upgrading from the 9.7-inch iPad Pro from early 2016 to the brand new 11-inch iPad Pro. The combination of upgraded specs, an all-new design, and subtly improved accessories is making this step all the more rewarding.
With the release of the new Apple Pencil and the inherent compatibility issues between models, charging the device may become confusing depending on which model you have. Follow along to learn how to charge Apple Pencil….

iPad Pro and Apple Pencil can do really amazing stuff when you put some time and effort into it. A great example of this is the new album artwork for the musical artist Muse.
A pair of recent reports indicate that this year could bring the first iPhones to offer Apple Pencil support. After the $329 2018 iPad was updated to work with the $99 accessory earlier this year, is this something you’d find useful on the 2018 5.8-inch or 6.5-inch iPhones?
Apple’s gamble on higher-priced iPhones appears to have paid off, with the iPhone X showing that plenty of people are willing to pay a four-figure sum for the right features.
